About The Minyag/Thaktok Sherpa Family
Tashi Deley and Welcome again to The Minyag/Thaktok Sherpa Family website!

We are excited to unite The Minyag/Thaktok Sherpa Family; the descendants of Minyag Gey Gyelbo, from around the world using this website. This Minyag/Thaktok Sherpa Family Tree will be a platform for us to keep connected with each other between our extended families, and will be helpful for our future generations to identify who they are.

There are four Sherpa proto-clans in the Sherpa society. They are Minyag, Thimi, Chakpa and Serwa. These four proto-clans or patrineal clans are called "original clans or pure Sherpa." Beside this four proto-clans or patrineal clans there are more than fifteen newer clans, with clan identity inherited through their father. There are also four pseudo clans. The descendants of Minyag Proto-Clans are Thaktok, Pinaasa, Garja, Goley, Yulkhongma, Pangkarma, Shire and Chhogyal clan.

As we know, the Sherpas were frequently moving from one place to another in the recent years, myself included. One study said, "Sherpa inheritance patterns, and Sherpa cultural notions that an individual might do better economically by leaving and starting over again." Time have changed a lot since I moved from Kharikhola, Solukhumbu to Kathmandu in March 1982 then to America in April 2002, and have been living here since. Some of my uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters might have the same story as mine. Gathering all our families information is very new to me. But, if all our cousins come together and provide me with their information, we can definitely accomplish our goals in the near future. I know this will be an on-going Project, and someone else will have to take it over in the coming days. However, I have put some information of our ancestors Gey Gyelbo's descendants in this website. Please keep checking it.

Furthermore, we already had lost many valuable information relating to our ancestors. But if we start collecting information now, then at least we would not lose rest of our grand and great grandparents information. I hope our Minyag brother's descendants will come forward to provide me their families information. Please tell your family members to send important family information to me at sherpaaj@hotmail.com. For details, see Ongdorjayangpa Family Foundation link below. I will keep updating your family informations in this site accordingly. Your valuable ideas and suggestions will be highly appreciated. For more information, regarding Sherpa and Minyag proto-clans, please go to the PEOPLE in the main menu on the top of this page and then click STORIES.

Thank you,
AJ Thaktok Sherpa
